GO GO GO! Booble Racecar Debuts
As I review the details of our Booble.com race car sponsorship, I feel like a junkyard dog that’s caught the bumper – the bumper of a very fast race car, that is. Peter Zekert of Zekert Racing is set to debut the Booble logos on his very, very fast Nissan 200SX at Gateway International Speedway in St. Louis on May 7th and 8th. I must say, we here at Booble are pretty stoked to be associated with such an accomplished race crew as Zekert Racing.
Peter has been racing in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) since 1986 and has appeared in 13 SCCA Runoffs since that time. (In SCCA parlance, runoffs are comparable to playoffs.) And, as an example of how experienced a racer Peter is, during the 1995 runoffs, he didn’t quite make it to the finish line. At speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour, Peter flipped his car and landed on the hood.
“I was upside down in the air and I heard cars going beneath me,” Peter said of the event that is now permanently burned into his memory. “We were almost roof-to-roof, eight inches apart. I wish I had a photo of it.”
Me too. Fortunately for Peter and his crew (and us), he was able to walk away from the crash unscathed. Hopefully, the Booble boobs will provide protection against such occurrences from ever happening again, or at least for a softer landing. In putting this blog entry together, I caught up with Peter to find out how he felt about having those somewhat controversial boobs on his race car.
“You know, it’s the dirty little secret in racing that most of the audience would rather be looking at beautiful women if they’re not at the track watching cars,” said Peter. “I’m just being honest about the culture. Hell, I think it’s a perfect match. Plus, your brand is not offensive,” he added. “It’s actually kind of funny, which is what I like about it.”
Spoken like a man who stared down death and won. Peter later waxed philosophic about why men are so apt to appreciate cars in a manner similar to they way they appreciate women.
“Race cars are like women,” he said. “We want to be with them, spending 40 hours of work for one hour of racing.”
I don’t know about you, Peter, but I only get 15 minutes of “racing” for my 40 hour work week.
